CRANE TECHNICIAN

Responsible for mechanical activities to maintain and repair NON HME Ancillary Equipment (Cranes,
HGV, Manitou etc.).
ï‚· ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
o Execute the planned preventative maintenance for the NON-HME Ancillary equipment to prevent
unnecessary downtime
o Ensure that daily inspections are completed to standard and documented accordingly to record any
work required for backlog planning
o Ensure enhancements and improvements to asset integrity and reliability practices for machine
integrity to be maintained
ï‚· Planning
o Follows the daily work reports/job cards.
ï‚· Implementation of the Plan
o Carries out actual maintenance and repairs of NON-HME Ancillary equipment in an efficient and
effective way in order to minimise downtime.
o Minimises downtime by ensuring the best techniques are being used to repair breakdowns.
o Conducts preventative maintenance on the NON-HME Ancillary Equipment by checking engines;
motors; pneumatics; hydraulic systems by following diagrams, sketches, operation manuals,
manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications. Troubleshooting malfunctions.
o Carries out “Fault finding” by using precision measuring and testing instruments.
o Removes defective parts by using hoists, cranes and hand and power tools. Examines form and
texture of parts to determine causes of failure.
o Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by using rulers; callipers; micrometres; and
other measuring instruments.
ï‚· Reporting
o Root cause analyses techniques and report writing
o Cause and effect analyses for defects and failures affecting asset performance

o At least 3 years’ experience in maintaining cranes, HGV and Basic NON HME Ancillary
equipment
o Knowledge and experience in HME equipment will be advantageous
